Chelsea legend Terry targets managerial job after Aston Villa stint

John Terry claims that his present aim is to one day take the reins at his previous club, Chelsea. The Englishman captained the Blues from the mid-2000s up until the late 2010s and wants to further his legacy by leading them from the dugout in the future.

Terry has laid down a marker for his managerial career. Yet to land a senior job in management, he has set his sights on the Chelsea managerial position.

A former captain of the Blues and a club great, Terry maintains that his long-term ambition is to return to the club of his career and states he is, presently, in the learning process which may one day lead to the fruition of the same.

“The long-term ambition and goal is to be Chelsea manager, of course,”

“That feels a little bit funny saying that because someone’s in the job and listen, we are still talking 10, 15 years down the line maybe. But I have to have an end goal and that’s it. It’s my dream. Hopefully, it happens. I’m on the process of doing that but a lot of things in between that have to go very well for me.

“So, I’m being very patient in the decisions I’m making in my next step in terms of management.”

    he told Stadium Astro.

At the club since 1995, Terry left Chelsea in 2017 after leading the Blues to their last Premier League title, albeit much of it from the sidelines. He dropped down a division to join Aston Villa in their promotion push back to the top flight and, a year later, was called up to the coaching team by Dean Smith upon his appointment as the first-team manager.

Terry spent three years at the club by Smith’s side as the Birmingham-based side returned to the Premier League after a three-year absence and later consolidated their position as one of the mid-table clubs vying for a European push. He left the Villans before the 2021/22 season and returned to Chelsea as a consultant coach for the youth teams.
