Real Madrid sign Shakhtar star Tobias until 2023; set to loan out Reinier again

Taking advantage of the special FIFA/UEFA transfer window for players caught in the middle of the Russia-Ukraine crisis, Los Blancos have announced the signing of Shakhtar Donetsk’s teenage right-back Vinicius Tobias on loan until the end of the next season. LaLiga table-toppers have the option to make the deal permanent in May.

The 18-year-old will join Real Madrid’s reserve squad for the time being, but a report in Goal says that the club has high hopes for the Brazilian. Current first-team right-back Dani Carvajal is in his twilight years, with winger-turned-fullback Lucas Vazquez the only alternative available to manager Carlo Ancelotti at present.

Alvaro Odriozola, whom Real Madrid signed from Real Sociedad back in 2018, failed to take over the position from Carvajal and is spending the ongoing season out on loan at ACF Fiorentina.

Meanwhile, as per Goal, Real are prepared to loan out Reinier Jesus next season, despite the striker completing a two-year temporary spell at Dortmund at the end of the current campaign.

Reinier, 18, has endured a tough time in Germany; he has appeared just 35 times across all competitions so far across two campaigns for Dortmund and has scored only one goal.

Real Madrid spent 35 million euros on the Brazilian in January 2020, although they are yet to hand him a senior appearance. Reinier did enjoy a brief spell at Real Madrid Castilla during the 2019/20 season, but even that did not amount to a senior squad call-up.

For the 20-year-old, breaking into the first-team next season also looks unlikely, much in part due to La Liga regulations for players from outside of the European Union.

Any given club is allowed to name five non-EU players in their senior squad, only three of which are permitted to have a spot on the matchday roster. At present, Brazilians Eder Militao, Vinicius Jr, and Rodrygo Goes are the ones filling in the matchday positions.
