Manchester United and Liverpool will face each other in Bangkok, Thailand this summer as part of their respective summer pre-season tours. The two English rivals will play at the Rajamangala Stadium on July 12, marking the first time either of the two has headed outside the British isles for a friendly since the Covid-19 outbreak two years ago.

United’s incoming director of football John Murtough revealed his delight in taking the team overseas for the first time in two years and playing the set of friendlies in front of a full audience.

“Pre-season tours are such an important part of the squad’s preparation for the season ahead, so it’s crucial to have excellent training facilities and high-quality opposition,”

    said Murtough.

“We’re delighted that we’ll have both these things during our visits to Bangkok and Melbourne this summer, and we’re looking forward to playing in front of our fans in both cities for the first time in a number of years.”

    said Murtough.

Liverpool’s commercial director Ben Latty echoed Murtough’s sentiments, claiming that his side’s trip to Bangkok will be special.

The Reds will return to Asia for the first time since 2017; on that occasion, they were one of the representatives of the Premier League in its pre-season-friendly tournament, the PL Asia Trophy.

“This trip to Bangkok will be very special and we’re really looking forward to having many of our supporters with us along the way,”

Following their fixture against Liverpool, Manchester United will head down to Australia to play Premier League outfit Crystal Palace in the Melbourne Cricket Ground on July 19. The Red Devils toured Australia in 2019 previously – just before the outbreak – and faced A-League side Perth Glory in a pre-season encounter.

    he said.

More Premier League teams are expected to announce their pre-season plans shortly; the league will return on August 6 for the 2022/23 season following a summer break.
