Everybody in England supports Manchester United, says City legend Aguero

Ex-Manchester City marksman Sergio Aguero has ranted on his Twitch stream that most journalists and TV pundits in England support Manchester United.

The Argentine, who was forced to retire in December 2021, had a distinguished career in England with City. He spent 10 seasons with them from 2011 to 2021 and scored 184 goals across 275 matches. Aguero is only behind Alan Shearer (260), Wayne Rooney (208) and Andy Cole (187) in the list of players who have scored the most goals in Premier League history.

The most famous goal of his career arrived in his very first season with City. On the final day of the league, City needed a victory against Queens Park Rangers to beat Manchester United to the Premier League title. Aguero received the ball in the 94th minute to drive into the penalty box and found the back of the net to help the club win the Premier League title for the first time in 44 years.

Aguero was watching a clip of that iconic goal on his Twitch stream before launching into a rant against the arch-rivals of his former club. The 33-year-old said that Manchester United enjoy a peculiar favouritism in England and most of the people working in television and journalism are The Red Devils supporters.

“People, you don’t know what it’s like in England. In England, everybody, all the journalists, all the TV channels, everybody, they’re all Manchester United supporters. Everybody!”

    he said.

It doesn’t exactly come as a surprise given that United are well represented in the punditry arena of football TV coverage. Several former Manchester United stars – Gary Neville, Rio Ferdinand, Roy Keane and Paul Scholes among others – have made the move to media in their careers and enjoy a considerable spotlight.

Neville is currently one of the biggest names in Sky Sports, while BT Sport Studio often include at least one former Manchester United player – primarily Ferdinand while covering Premier League matches. Keane, Scholes and Owen Hargreaves are also regulars in the studio.
