Agent Joao Santos has opened up the possibility of his client Jorginho returning to Serie A in the future, once again. Santos confirmed that he had held talks with several clubs in the past over a move but is unsure if they remain interested in the midfielder.

Uncertainty surrounds the Chelsea star and his future in the Premier League. The Italian international has been linked, persistently, with a move back to Italy since his arrival in the Premier League in 2018, much of which is due to his agent Joao Santos’s perennial comments about his client’s desire to return to Serie A.

Speaking again recently, Santos reiterated the same while confirming that he had held talks with clubs all over Europe in the past, including AC Milan and Barcelona, on behalf of his client. Santos, then, threw further doubt over the midfielder’s future at Chelsea, given the Blues’ current situation.

“Playing in Serie A is a dream for him and his heart remains here. As things stand today, he could play for four or five clubs: Milan, Inter, Juve, Roma, or Napoli.

“There are many clubs interested in him. In the past, I spoke to PSG, Barcelona, and also Milan’s Ricky Massara. I don’t know if the Rossoneri are still interested, though.

“The fact remains, we can’t do anything now because Chelsea are not allowed to sell, buy or renew contracts. Jorginho has a contract until June 2023, after the World Cup we’ll see about working on a renewal.”

    he added.

Chelsea’s club policy means players over 30 are rarely offered a contract extension longer beyond a year, a rule which the club bent in the case of both David Luiz and Willian recently – albeit, the latter rejected the offer and joined Arsenal instead. Now 30, Jorginho falls under the same category, and by all accounts, talks over extending his current deal beyond 2023 are yet to take place.

The Italian is, nevertheless, a key cog in Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea team, as evidenced by the role he played during their Champions League-winning run last year, which, along with Italy’s success at the Euros later that year, won him the UEFA Men’s Player of the Year award.
