Keane prediction following Man United’s derby humiliation comes true

Former Manchester United captain Roy Keane’s worst fears seem to have come true after the humbling defeat to Manchester City. He had tipped members of the squad to apologise on social media in a rant and Jadon Sancho and David de Gea have lived up to that prediction.

The Irishman was in no mood to joke around following United’s tepid performance away from home against rivals City. Ralf Rangnick’s side suffered a 4-1 defeat and United have been plagued with a plethora of on-field as well as off-field issues lately.

Keane was left furious, especially after a horrific second-half performance where United failed to create a single attempt on Manchester City’s goal. He also pointed fingers at the present culture in the United dressing room where players make posts of apology on social media.

He views this practice as ‘rubbish.’ Such apologetic remarks online have been a consistent theme of United’s lacklustre season.

“I don’t know who’s running that dressing room. Look at Maguire, he had a poor game, is he having battles with Ronaldo, captaincy and all these things?”

“Egos come into it, you leave egos at the front door, these guys are all about how am I looking? Are my boots nice? Is my hair looking good? Play the game! You’re at Man United, we’re looking at the fans behind the goal and they know, they’re not daft, this team we’re supporting have given up.

“We’ll hear a load of rubbish over the coming days, we’ve heard it before, there’ll be statements, ‘sorry about that, we’ll try it again next week’. It’s what you do on the pitch that interests me, not all the other garbage.”

    Keane told Sky Sports.

The former captain’s worst fears have been realised after both goalkeeper David De Gea as well as the only United scorer in the match Jadon Sancho took to Twitter to apologise to the Red Devils faithful.

Apologies to the fans… It’s not good enough. We have to look ourselves as players and work hard to make things right. We will keep on fighting. 🔴 pic.twitter.com/Da4F5HBb6Y

Meanwhile, De Gea also posted an apology along with a picture of him looking dejected while lying on the Etihad Stadium pitch.

We will, one day, get this club back to where it deserves to be. Today was another bad moment in a difficult season but when we still have this shirt to defend we will not give up. 🔴 pic.twitter.com/dkHn98yHSn
