Newcastle eyeing bold summer move for Neymar; Man City watch situation too

Speculations are rife surrounding Neymar’s future once again. The superstar attacker was booed along with compatriot Lionel Messi during PSG’s recent home match, and the Parisians are reportedly open to the idea of selling him in the summer. Newcastle are eyeing up a bold summer swoop for the Brazilian.

Newcastle United are considering a big marquee signing for the summer following their massive cash-injected takeover by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund which is chaired by Saudi crown prince Mohammed bin Salman.

Following PSG’s embarrassing exit from the Champions League in the second leg of the Round of 16 tie against Real Madrid, Neymar was booed and jeered along with Messi in the French side’s home match against Bordeaux in Ligue 1. Despite scoring the second goal in the 3-0 win, Neymar was partially blamed for the Champions League collapse and poked fun at by the home supporters.

The Brazilian, who has had a rocky relationship with the PSG fans and management since his eyebrow-raising move from Barcelona, has been left disillusioned by the actions and his weighing up his options in the summer. Several journalists also reported that the state of Qatar, which owns PSG through Qatar Sports Investments wants him to be sold in the summer despite him signing a fresh contract last year.

Neymar became the most expensive player in football history when the Parisian club triggered his Barcelona release clause of 222 million euros in August 2017. He has scored 92 goals in 136 matches for them across all seasons but the attacker has come under fire because of his diminishing returns with every passing season and the lack of a competitive edge.

This season, he has found the back of the net only on five occasions. PSG have also suffered from his attitude problems. The player could prove to be a dream signing for Newcastle, which was acquired by the Saudi Investment Fund last year and notionally the richest club in the world.

Therefore, the Magpies are one of the few clubs who can afford the eye-watering amount which PSG initially paid for Neymar as well as his astronomical wages of 500,000 pounds per week.

Fichajes also claim in their report that Manchester City could also be in the running for the Brazilian if they miss out on the services of Erling Haaland this summer, while a sentimental return to Barcelona hasn’t been ruled out either.
