Ex-Indian international Kaif in soup after Rohit-Dravid comments

The former Indian cricketer Mohammed Kaif has drawn a lot of flak online after his recent comments about the Indian Test match side after the conclusion of their home series against Sri Lanka, which was their first under new all-format skipper Rohit Sharma.

India blew away their southern neighbours in relentless fashion, dominating the entire series, as they won both games by huge margins. Wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant was named man of the series for his brilliant performances in both games.

Post the conclusion of the series, Kaif took to Twitter to express his happiness over the achievements of the Indian squad, and did so by speaking about the structure in the playing XI, and added that a world-class side is taking shape under the leadership of recently-appointed coach Anil Kumble and skipper Rohit Sharma.

KL, Rohit, Vihari, Kohli, Iyer, Pant, Jadeja, Ash, Bumrah, Shami and many No.11 options … Suddenly, it all looks fine. Under Rohit and Dravid, a world beating Test unit is taking shape.

Kaif’s words did not go well with many fans, who mercilessly trolled him on various social media platforms. There were many who were of the opinion that accrediting Rohit and Rahul Dravid with the success of the Test team is grossly disrespectful to the achievements of former skipper Virat Kohli and coach Ravi Shastri, who in fact, were the architects of this project of building a first-rate Test match side, and achieved incredible success as well.

Fans believed that Kaif harboured an obvious bias against Kohli and Shastri, and decided to use Twitter to fire shots at the duo. Fans also made it absolutely clear that everyone who was in the squad in the series against Sri Lanka played under Virat first, and it was not right on Kaif’s part to give credit to Sharma and Dravid for their success. They also blamed Kaif for carrying bitterness over his release from the RCB squad back in the day, the same season Kohli was made captain.

Meanwhile, most of the Indian players have made their way into their respective squads for the Indian Premier League, which begins on March 26. India’s next Test match assignment is quite far off, next playing only in July, when they will travel to England for the fifth Test match of the 2021 series that was put off after Covid-19 cases started increasing rapidly.
