Lampard reveals he fractured his hand after celebrating Iwobi’s last-gasp goal too wildly

Everton manager Frank Lampard admitted that he broke his hand celebrating his side’s stoppage-time win over Newcastle United in the Premier League when Alex Iwobi found the back of the net in the ninth minute of added time. However, he also added that he would suffer one every week if it meant similar results.

Everton-Newcastle clash proved to be an absolute thriller. Midfielder Allan was sent off in the 83rd minute, which put pressure on the Toffees. However, they overcame all odds to win the match 1-0 in the last minute through a goal from Iwobi.

“I didn’t punch anything, but I realised two minutes later my hand was shaking and aching. I will take it for the three points,”

    Lampard told Amazon Prime.

This was only Everton’s second win in 13 matches, and they are just three points clear of the relegation zone. However, they have two games in hand.

Their game against the Magpies was marked by controversy yet again as referee Craig Pawson overturned his initial decision of a yellow card to eventually send off Allan and left Everton fighting to close the game with 10 men.

Lampard said he was ‘frustrated’ over the decision as his side have been on the receiving end of harsh decisions lately. They were also denied a penalty from a Rodri handball during a 1-0 loss to Manchester City last month which led to an apology from Premier League referees’ chief Mike Riley.

“We now lose Allan for three games, let’s hope the Referees’ Association can say we got that wrong [too],”

Lampard also stated that he was pleased by what he called “a night of togetherness and fight” at an emotional Goodison Park, while also mentioning that chairman Bill Kenwright delivered a ”passionate” speech to the players at the training ground on Wednesday and even added that his visita meant a great deal to the players and him.
