Putting his suitors to the sword, Harry Kane showed why Tottenham Hotspur had held out for big bucks last summer when fielding interest from Manchester City. The forward remains at the club for now, but talks over extending his stay have stalled.

“I don’t want to come to the end of my career and have any regrets,”

the England international said during the summer transfer window.

“I want to be the best I can be… It’s a moment in my career where I have to reflect and see where I’m at. Ultimately it’s going to be down to me, how I feel and what’s going to be the best for me and my career.”

Manchester City wanted to sign the Englishman last summer, but Tottenham held out for a fee the Citizens deemed to be out of their reach, and Kane stayed behind. On February 19, the forward showed exactly why the English champions wanted so desperately to sign him in the summer; he scored twice in a dramatic 3-2 win to help Spurs beat City.

Harry Kane has now scored 30 Premier League goals against "Big Six" sides:

    ◉ 11 vs Arsenal
    ◉ 7 vs Liverpool
    ◉ 4 vs Chelsea
    ◉ 4 vs Man Utd
    ◉ 4 vs Man City

However, while Kane may feel at home, for now, the club does not intend to start talks with him over extending his contract beyond 2024. They will, instead, wait for the player to make the first move this summer – says The Athletic.

Both Spurs and manager Antonio Conte want to keep Kane at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, says the report, but are aware that the decision, at present, rests with the player. The Englishman, on his part, wants to evaluate his future after the events of the previous summer, and the club has decided not to approach him with talks regarding a contract extension until the next one.

Kane could decide to turn away advances from other clubs and commit his future to Tottenham, should he judge the team capable of winning trophies. However, should he decide to leave Spurs this summer and be met by resistance from the club’s hierarchy, he would prefer to leave for free two years later in 2024, upon contract expiry.
