Former Arsenal and England midfielder Jack Wilshere, who was training with his the Gunners until last week to keep himself fit for a return to professional football, has signed a short-term contract with Denmark Superliga club Aarhus Gymnastikforening.

The 30-year-old is back in professional football, almost a year after leaving Championship side AFC Bournemouth. The ex-Arsenal player has been looking for a new club and keeping himself fit for the same since – he has found a new home at Denmark’s Aarhus Gymnastikforening.

The Englishman spoke of the same after signing for AGF, stating that he is in a place where he needs a fresh start following some difficult years.

“Since I started training with Arsenal, I have never hidden the fact that it was to be ready for 2022 and for a new club,”

“Now the right club is here, and it will be an exciting new challenge for me. I am in a place in my career where I need to get started again after a difficult period and that opportunity has AGF offered me.

For that, I am very grateful, and I will do everything I can to live up to the expectations.”

    he told club media.

Wilshere had been training with Arsenal in the meantime and was also a member of the squad Mikel Arteta took to Dubai for the team’s hot weather training camp. Despite that, the manager confirmed that the club had no intention of re-signing their former player, who has since had stints at West Ham United and Bournemouth.

Struggling constantly with injuries during his senior career, Wilshere admitted in a previous interview that he thought about retiring from football at the age of 30 after his release at the end of last season. Wilshere came through the ranks at Arsenal, making first-team appearances in 2008, graduating from the academy, and departing on his first loan spell in 2009, before returning to be a part of the senior team in 2010. He ended his association with the Gunners in 2018, having made 197 appearances and scored 14 goals.
