Man City eyeing double contract extension after De Bruyne deal

Manchester City tied down talisman Kevin De Bruyne to a long-term deal recently, with the Belgian midfielder signing on until 2025. According to Eurosport, the Cityzens are reportedly looking at contract extensions for Raheem Sterling and Phil Foden.

The report claims that following De Bruyne’s extension, City are now closing in on negotiating a long-term deal with Foden. The Manchester side hopes that Sterling will follow the pair into committing his future to the club. However, the Englishman recently split with his agent might prove to be a hindrance soon.

Meanwhile, one player who won’t be continuing with Manchester City after this season is Sergio Aguero. The player confirmed his departure from the club after a decade and will leave as the all-time top goal-scorer in their history. The club has already sanctioned an artist to build a statue for the Argentine outside their stadium.

Another player who could depart City this summer is Brazilian midfielder Fernandinho. The veteran midfielder’s contract runs out at the club this summer, following which he will be a free agent. While his departure hasn’t been confirmed, he is yet to commit his future to the club. City reportedly have already built a shortlist to replace Aguero and Fernandinho. Rumours claim that they are eyeing Erling Haaland as a replacement for the former, while Sander Berge and Joao Palhinha are being eyed to fill in the midfield spot.

Manchester City might also look inwards to strengthen their squad next season. Pep Guardiola recently confirmed that youngster Liam Delap will be a member of the first-team squad beginning from the 2021/22 season. Goal.com claims that the Citizens are also keeping tabs on Yangel Herrera, who has impressed while on loan at Granada during the current season. Herrera is Granada’s top scorer in Europe this season and will come up against Manchester United in the UEFA Europa League quarter-finals.
