Manchester United players want Pochettino to replace Rangnick

The Red Devils are frantically searching for a new permanent manager to take over the club in the summer following the conclusion of Ralf Rangnick’s tenure. Many of the players want Paris Saint-Germain head coach Mauricio Pochettino to take over at Old Trafford.

Richard Arnold has officially taken over as the new CEO of Manchester United, replacing Ed Woodward, who occupied the position for eight years. As a result, the club will be intensifying its search for a new permanent manager to take charge of the team this summer.

Reports from the dressing room suggest that it wants to see former Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino back in the Premier League, this time sitting on the dugout at Old Trafford.

As per ESPN sources, a number of heavyweights in the locker room have discussed in private quarters that the Argentine is the right person for the role. Speculations linking Pochettino with United are hardly new and have been persistent ever since he managed to achieve stability and success despite immense financial constraints at Tottenham Hotspur.

However, the 49-year-old isn’t the singular name on the list of possible candidates. Ajax boss Erik Ten Hag is another likely option but United think that Pochettino is obtainable in the summer and will go all out for him. They want to appoint a permanent manager as soon as possible towards the end of the season.

Erik ten Hag on his future: “Marc Overmars and me were definitely a strong duo. But to think about this now… it's not about me now. We need to process what happened”, he told @MikeVerweij. 🔴 #Ajax

Despite PSG’s 13-point lead at the top of Ligue 1, Pochettino’s time in France has hardly been enjoyable. He has attracted plenty of criticism for losing the league title to Lille last season, and he has hardly found success in the cup competitions, including UEFA Champions League.

His position as manager could be in serious danger as early as even next month if PSG don’t get a favourable result against Real Madrid in the Champions League Round of 16 stage.

ESPN have also reported that the Argentine manager would be open to returning to the Premier League where he made a name for himself following impressive tenures with Southampton and Tottenham between 2013 and 2019.

He has been highly rated at Old Trafford because of his style of play and philosophy of attractive football. Pochettino is also known to work well with younger players from the academy, which beckons well for Manchester United.
