Sunday night witnessed another doubleheader in the Vivo Pro Kabaddi League season 8. The three-time league winners Patna Pirates took on the defending champions Bengal Warriors, while season 6 champions Bengaluru Bulls locked horns with Gujarat Giants.

In the first game of the night, the Pirates comprehensively overcame Warriors 38-29. This was the second encounter between the two sides this season, and both times Patna have come up triumphant.

Patna’s victory was led by Sachin Tanwar, who got 11 raid points and Mohammed Chiyaneh, who registered yet another High 5.

Sachin was supported by Guman Singh in the raiding department as he scored crucial points in do-or-die raids. He finished with seven raid points.

The Pirates cleaned up the Bengal Warriors twice over the course of the game, which gave Patna a good lead. The Warriors could not recover from the all out. Bengal captain Maninder Singh was carrying an injury and therefore could not play up to his potential and was finally substituted in the 34th minute.

Bengal’s defence did not fire at all as it was only Nabibaksh and Manoj Gowda, who scored eight raid points each to show something on the scorecard for the Warriors.

After this win, the Pirates have now consolidated their position at the top of the points table with 60 points from 16 matches. In contrast, the defending champions are struggling at the 11th position.

In the second fixture of the time, the Pawan Kumar Sherawat-led side suffered a defeat at the hands of the Giants by 36-40.

Errors in the defence in the dying stages of the game cost the Bulls. With two minutes to go for the final whistle, they got two opportunities to give an all-out to the Giants. However, they instead gave technical points to the Giants, which meant the Gujarat team avoided an all-out twice.

Gujarat Giants eventually got all out with a minute to go, and Bulls equalled the score at 34-34, but errors in defence in the last few seconds cost them the game.

Bharat and Pawan Kumar Sherawat scored Super 10s for the Bulls, but it proved to be not enough for the Bulls to win the game. In defence, Aman scored four tackle points.

For the Gujarat Giants, their rising star raider Pardeed Kumar scored 14 raid points to secure a win for his team. Giants captain Sunil Kumar also completed his High 5.

The Giants are currently ninth in the standings, while the Bulls are placed third, but they have played the most number of games.
