Mirror: Man Utd resume Pochettino pursuit as PSG stint hurtles towards messy end

The belief is that Mauricio Pochettino will leave Paris Saint-Germain at the end of the season. Should he do so, Manchester United will be waiting – as they have for a while – to offer him the role of first-team manager.

The Argentine caught Manchester United’s eye while at Tottenham, who had smartly plucked him away from Southampton after just a season in English football. The tactician transformed Spurs from perennial European spot chasers to title contenders in the space of a few years behind an exciting team of young players, such as Harry Kane, Son Heung-min, Dele Alli, and Christian Eriksen.

Poch left Spurs in 2019, months after suffering defeat with his team in the Champions League final. Slightly more than a year later, he was back in management, having taken over at PSG from Thomas Tuchel – a position he continues to hold to this day, but, if reports are to be believed, not for long.

Several rumors claim Pochettino is unhappy in Paris, and PSG is unhappy with Pochettino, signaling, in all likelihood, a summer split. Factors, ranging from a deteriorating relationship with sporting director Leonardo to not being able to get his team to click, have been put forward as potential deal-breakers, while his future could very well be decided by the outcome of PSG’s Champions League round-of-16 tie against Real Madrid.

United, without a permanent manager, at present, are monitoring the situation closely, given their long-standing interest in the Argentinian tactician, says the Mirror. The Red Devils are confident of appointing Pochettino as their manager next summer, a move that would see current interim boss Ralf Rangnick withdraw upstairs into a consultancy role.

As per the report, the Parisians will be happy to see the back of Pochettino and will not stand in his way should he wish to join Manchester United. That, in theory, would remove a major hurdle as the Red Devils won’t be required to pay the Parisians a fee to free Poch out of his contract.
