“It won’t be fair to only blame the defence” – says Bengaluru Bulls coach after losing top spot in PKL 8

Having lost to Tamil Thalaivas (42-24) on Sunday, the Bulls have now suffered four defeats in their last five Pro Kabaddi League 8 games. Pundits claim that the reason behind their unimpressive showing has been that the team has not been able to perform as a unit.

Bulls head coach Randhir Singh Sherawat said in a post-match interaction with the media that they had clear plans for the Thailavas. In fact, the last time the two teams met in the league, the Bulls had come on top, winning by eight points. But in yesterday’s game, according to the coach, neither the defence nor the offence played well.

“It won’t be fair to only blame the defence as the offence didn’t do as well as we would have liked,”

    Sherawat said.

Bulls captain Pawan Kumar Sherawat didn’t shy away from commenting that the defence had a below-par game. He told the reporters that the covers gave away a lot of points, and the other defenders did not have a great game either.

The Bulls have a tough assignment ahead as they will be facing UP Yoddhas on 1st February. The Yoddhas won the last game between the two sides earlier in the season, defeating the Bulls 42-27. With an out of form defence and with no other raider supporting Pawan Kumar Sherawat, it will be an uphill task for the Bulls to beat the UP Yoddhas.

Pawan Kumar Sherawat is also wary of the threat UP Yoddhas possess as a raiding unit.

“Yoddhas are playing well, their raiders are doing well, Pardeep Narwal is a brilliant raider, in fact he is a charismatic raider, he is on another level, Gill too is playing well this year, he is been a brilliant support raider for UP, it is going to be a tough game against the Yoddhas, but we will try our best to stop them”,

    he said.

The Bulls are now second in the points table after 16 games, with Dabang Delhi leading the table with 48 points. The Bulls would be wary of other teams overtaking them as all other teams have played fewer games as compared to the Bulls.

Dabang Delhi have played two games less than the Bulls, and that places them in quite an advantageous position at the top of the table. They can’t afford any slip-ups, though. The Patna Pirates have played a game less than Delhi and are just three points behind in third place.
