Newcastle consider loaning out Lingard; Arsenal are in negotiations with USA goalkeeper Turner

Newcastle United have launched another attempt to loan Manchester United midfielder Jesse Lingard until the end of the season. Meanwhile, Arsenal are closing in on a deal for New England Revolution custodian Matt Turner.

The Magpies are again attempting to sign Lingard on a short-term loan – says The Athletic. Following a successful loan spell at West Ham United last season, Lingard returned to Manchester, hoping to break into the first team with momentum on his side. However, the Englishman was used sparingly by his former manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, and even less so by his current coach Ralf Rangnick.

The lack of playing time prompted Lingard to decide against renewing his contract with United; the England international has entered his final six months at the club and, barring any surprising developments, will leave for free next summer. However, Newcastle are attempting to sign him now until the end of the season. The Magpies have had a loan bid rebuffed by the Old Trafford-based club previously but are persisting with their approach for the 29-year-old.

Meanwhile, The Athletic also reports that Arsenal are interested in signing United States of America international Matt Turner. The 27-year-old plays in goal for Major League Soccer side New England Revolution and is being looked at by the Gunners as a potential backup option to Aaron Ramsdale.

Arsenal are keen to bring Turner in before the end of the ongoing winter transfer window. The USMNT international’s arrival could push Bernd Leno out of the Emirates door, with the German international already behind Ramsdale in the pecking order.

The plan was to retain Leno’s services until the end of the season. However, he might be allowed to leave the club with immediate effect if they are successful in securing Turner’s services.

Leno arrived at Arsenal from Bayer Leverkusen in 2018 for a sizable fee and took over the goalkeeping duties from Petr Cech. The German kept the goal for the Gunners for the next three years before being similarly usurped by Ramsdale.

According to 90MIN, Newcastle are interested in loaning the custodian until the end of the season with an obligation to turn his move permanent if they survive relegation.
