The new Australian Test skipper has been thoroughly impressed by the performances of Cameron Green and Travis Head following another successful Ashes series.

Australia routed England 4-0 over the course of the Ashes, which culminated with a satisfying 146-run win in the fifth Test in Hobart.

While England looked solid following a steady opening partnership in the final innings of the Hobart Test, Green turned the game on its head with a spectacular spell on either side of the break. This ended up triggering a dramatic batting collapse for the Three Lions, who ended up losing all 10 wickets for just 56 runs.

Green finished the innings with three wickets which included the top three England batters Rory Burns, Zak Crawley and David Malan. To add to it, he added vital 74 runs in a 121-run partnership with Travis Head, who smacked two centuries in four Tests. Pat Cummins didn’t hold back in his appreciation for the duo’s performances.

“Last summer I thought he showed signs of his potential and this summer he was really confident. I think he grew as a batter and bowler throughout it. And he’s just as good as any all-rounder in the world at the moment.

For someone so young, as a captain, I feel really lucky, not only to draw on him as a bowler but when he’s next in to bat I just feel so calm”.

    he said of the 22-year-old.

Green scored 228 runs and picked up 15 wickets during the five-match series. He averaged a decent 32.57 with the bat and picked up his wickets at a sensational bowling average of 15.77.

Travis Head ended up with the Player of the Series award after making a comeback into the Australian squad. He finished as the leading run-scorer with 357 runs at an average of 59.5, including two centuries.

“Someone like Travis Head, he’s still seen as one of one the younger players but he’s got a hell of a lot of experience in domestic cricket. He’s played a lot.

And he goes about it a little bit differently to most other batters which is his biggest strength. As a captain, I don’t care if he gets out in non-traditional ways,”

    Cummins said.
