Changes in the Spurs’ roster can be expected over the next month as Spurs have contacted Manchester United attacker Jesse Lingard for a summer move, reports Football London. The transfer could also be completed in the January transfer window.
The Manchester United star is out of contract at the end of the season, and talks regarding a new deal with the club hierarchy, so far, have failed to progress.
As such, the report states that Spurs have contacted Lingard with a view towards signing him for free six months later. However, a transfer during the ongoing winter transfer window remains an option for the two sides, should an agreement be reached with United over his releases – a scenario which would, in all likelihood, see Spurs compensate the Red Devils for their player’s services.
The 29-year-old spent the latter half of the previous season on loan at West Ham United, where he impressed enough to earn his spot back in the Manchester United squad. However, both Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and United’s current interim manager Ralf Rangnick have used the attacker sparingly, and an exit now looks increasingly likely.
Meanwhile, as per The Times, Tottenham have rejected AFC Ajax’s offer for winger Steven Bergwijn. The reigning Eredivisie champions were willing to pay 15 million pounds for services of the Dutchman, but Spurs are said to be holding out for more.
Nonetheless, Ajax are confident that they can reach an agreement with the English club for the Dutchman in the current transfer window. Ajax also have had a loan offer for Bergiwjn rejected by Tottenham.
Spurs signed Bergwijn from PSV Eindhoven in January 2020 for a fee in the region of 25 million pounds. In the two years since, the Dutchman has made 60 appearances for the North London outfit – and scored five goals. However, despite showing signs of his brilliance in flashes, he remains on the periphery of the first eleven, with Harry Kane, Son Heung-min, and Lucas Moura the choice front three of Antonio Conte and his predecessors.
