Former India left-arm pacer Irfan Pathan is the fourth player to have tested COVID-19 positive among the cricketers who took part in the recently concluded Road Safety World Series T20 tournament in Raipur.

On March 27, Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar had announced that he had contracted the coronavirus, which was followed by confirmation of the same from Yusuf Pathan and fellow former cricketer Subramaniam Badrinath.

On Monday, Irfan Pathan, Yusuf’s brother, also took to Twitter and confirmed that he has tested positive for coronavirus, albeit with no symptoms. The pacer added that he has isolated himself at home.

I have tested positive for COVID-19 with no symptoms and have isolated myself and quarantined at home. I would request those who came in contact with me in recent past to please get themselves tested. Urging all to wear masks and maintain social distancing. Wishing you all good health.

The Road Safety World Series T20 tournament took place from saw former players, spread across teams such as India Legends, West Indies Legends, Bangladesh Legends, South Africa Legends, Sri Lanka Legends and England Legends, compete against each other.

A team named Australia Legends, too, took part earlier in the tournament but lost to Sri Lanka Legends and then forfeited all their matches due to travel restrictions amid the ongoing pandemic.

India Legends eventually came out triumphant in the competition, defeating Sri Lanka Legends in the final. Irfan played his part in taking the Tendulkar-led team to glory. He picked up seven wickets while bowling at an economy rate of 8.47 and chipped in with useful runs, scoring 126 runs, including two half-centuries, at a strike-rate of 185.29.

Irfan played 29 Tests, 120 ODIs and 24 T20Is for India from 2003 to 2012 and took over 300 international wickets, besides scoring nearly 2,000 runs at the highest level. He was instrumental in India’s historic win at the inaugural T20 World Cup in South Africa back in 2007. Post his retirement, Irfan has made a successful transition into coaching and commentary.
