2019/20 FA Cup winners Arsenal were dumped out of the competition by Championship side Nottingham Forest in one of the shocks of the third round. Liverpool and Spurs, meanwhile, survived early scare in their respective games to book a berth in the next round.
An 83rd-minute goal from Lewis Grabban dumped Arsenal out of the 2021/22 FA Cup, with Nottingham Forest going through to the next round to play Leicester City.
Forest broke quickly after Albert Sambi Lokonga had casually given the ball away in midfield; Brennan Johnson released Ryan Yates down the right with the Arsenal defence out of shape – and the latter’s cross was turned in by Grabban for the only goal of the game.
At Anfield, 17-year-old Kaide Gordon brought Liverpool level with Shrewsbury with his first goal in senior football. The EFL League One side had taken the lead in the 27th minute through Daniel Udoh – a lead that lasted only seven minutes. To make matters worse for the minnows, Liverpool were awarded a penalty for handball minutes before the break, which Fabinho scored to give the Reds the lead.
Jurgen Klopp wrung in the changes in the second half with the game still too close to call, and one of those substitutes, Roberto Firmino, backheeled Liverpool clear in the 78th minute.
Fabinho, then, added a fourth late by thumping a loose ball into the roof of the net from close range, setting up a Fourth Round tie against Cardiff City.
Tottenham, similarly, went behind against Morecambe after Anthony O’Connor tapped in from a corner in the 33rd minute.
However, it took until the 74th minute for Spurs to find an equalizer, which finally came from a Harry Winks free-kick from the left that dubiously beat everyone present inside the box, along with the goalkeeper.
Lucas Moura put Antonio Conte’s side in front in the 85th minute with a goal entirely of his own making; the Brazilian won the ball just inside his half, rounded the goalkeeper, and poked it into an empty net.
Kane added gloss to the scoreline with a customary goal three minutes later and took Spurs through to the fourth round, where they’ll face Brighton and Hove Albion.
