Newcastle United are to persist with their interest in Lille’s Sven Botman and Sevilla’s Diego Carlos, as per The Athletic. Meanwhile, Tottenham Hotspur are keen on Adama Traore of Wolverhampton, whom they see fit for the right wing-back role under Antonio Conte.

The Magpies are currently in a relegation battle and are looking for players to help them challenge for safety in the second half of the season – and move forward from there. After confirming the transfer of Kieran Trippier from Atletico Madrid on January 7, they are set to continue their surge in the market for further reinforcements – aided by Saudi owners.

Both the centre-backs are key targets, with the club already having had a bid rejected for Carlos by Sevilla. Meanwhile, Newcastle’s list of potential defenders targets does not end there.

The club has identified AS Monaco’s Benoit Badiashile as an alternative for Botman while it is also keeping tabs on Liverpool’s Nathaniel Phillips, Tottenham’s Joe Rodon, West Ham United’s Issa Diop, Bournemouth’s Lloyd Kelly, and Burnley’s James Tarkowski.

Another team in need of some key reinforcements is Tottenham. Antonio Conte’s arrival has coincided with a sharp upturn in form, and now the Italian gets to shape the team as per his ideas through incomings and outgoings in the transfer market.

That being said, one of Spurs’ key targets in the current window is Wolves’ versatile attacker Adama Traore, who can also play as a right wing-back when needed.

As per The Athletic, Spurs intend to turn Traore into a right wing-back – similar to how Conte used Victor Moses during his time at Chelsea.

The North London outfit can get their man for a meagre fee of 20 million pounds, thanks to his deal which has only eighteen months left to run. Spurs could also offer former Wolves player Matt Doherty – who is naturally a right wing-back – in part-exchange for Traore.
