On Tuesday, Mumbai Cricket Association has announced a 19-man squad for the first two games of the Ranji Trophy this season and Prithvi Shaw will be leading the contingent. Shaw, who was captain of the side in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, continues in his position.

The squad which included some usual suspects like opener Yashasvi Jaiswal, experienced campaigners Aditya Tare and Dhawal Kulkarni. However, the name that caught a lot of attention was that of Arjun Tendulkar, son of former Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar.

Having played a decent amount of professional cricket before, Tendulkar was drafted into the Mumbai Indians setup in the auction last season. The fast-bowling all-rounder is capable of cranking up good speeds and is a tidy lower-order batter. The 22-year-old made his T20 debut in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy in January this year and is yet to play a first-class game.

Mumbai have stacked up their batting line-up with a lot of recognizable names, ones that have been doing very well. The likes of Arman Jaffer, Sarfaraz Khan and Roystan Dias have been prolific contributors to the Mumbai setup across formats and are capable of adding a lot of runs.

All-rounder Shivam Dube has been drafted into the squad as well, who will be keen on delivering some big performances after a not-so-impressive Indian Premier League campaign. Mumbai will be opening their Ranji campaign with a clash against Maharashtra and will be facing Delhi after that.

The 41-time champions have not won the title since 2015-16 and are closing in on their longest streak without a Ranji title. From 1986 to 1993, they went without a title for seven years, and there is increasing pressure on them to break the streak.
