BCCI president Sourav Ganguly had tested COVID positive last week despite taking both doses of vaccine and was admitted to the Woodlands Hospital in Kolkata. His family has confirmed that the ex-Indian skipper was in stable condition.

A statement from the hospital suggested that the former cricketer is maintaining oxygen saturation of 99% and had slept well last night. He is currently being monitored by Dr Saroj Mondal, Dr. Saptarshi Basu and Dr Soutik Panda.

“On the second day of admission, Sourav Ganguly, BCCI president and former India captain, is hemodynamically stable, febrile and maintaining oxygen saturation of 99 percent on room air. He slept well last night and had breakfast and lunch,”

read the official statement from the hospital.

The last couple of months or so has been a busy time for Ganguly, who was at the centre of changing the Indian head coach position and handing it to his former teammate Rahul Dravid. He was also in the forefront across all media headlines when Virat Kohli was dropped as captain of the ODI side.

The former Indian captain and current Indian Test skipper Kohli were clearly not in agreement with their assessment, and it became quite the topic of discussion.

Ganguly has been at the helm of BCCI since October 2019, a role he took up after monitoring the state cricket board of West Bengal for nearly four years.

The concern over Ganguly’s health condition was intense over the last two days owing to the fact that he was admitted to the hospital multiple times earlier this year when he complained of chest pain. The 49-year-old underwent an angioplasty once and then had another emergency angioplasty 20 days later.

The COVID outbreak in Kolkata has increased in the last few days, with the Omicron variant rapidly spreading across the city, and also the country. West Bengal is currently recording over 400 cases a day, and Kolkata alone has had over 200 of them.
