Manchester United have joined the race for River Plate’s 21-year-old striker sensation, Julian Alvarez. Meanwhile, Anthony Martial finds himself on the periphery of the first team and is keen on a loan switch to Sevilla.

Alvarez is one of the most sought-after players in world football and is destined to make the trip across the Atlantic following a breakthrough year in Argentina, during which he scored 18 goals and provided six assists as River Plate sealed the domestic title.

As per Ole, the Red Devils are keen to steal a march on their continental counterparts and have contacted the Argentinian club regarding the 21-year-old striker’s transfer. While River remains hopeful of convincing Alvarez to prolong his stay at the club by at least another year, reports claim that he has a 17 million pounds release clause in his contract – due to increase to 21 million in the final days of the January transfer window.

AC Milan, Internazionale, Juventus, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Ajax, and Bayern Munich, have been linked with the youngster in recent weeks, meaning that Manchester United have a battle at their hands if they wish to bring him to Old Trafford.

In other news, Anthony Martial – who has attracted interest from Barcelona and Juventus – is keen on a temporary switch to Sevilla. The Frenchman finds himself outside the first team at Manchester United, a situation which, in the early weeks of Ralf Rangnick’s tenure, looks set to continue.

While the 26-year-old has missed the early games in Rangnick’s reign due to injury, he is due for talks with the interim manager regarding his future. Marca claims that the Frenchman will be allowed to leave the club in January and that Sevilla, presently, seems to be the likeliest option, despite interest within the Premier League, especially from Newcastle United.

Martial’s output has significantly dipped this season, as has his game time. In 10 appearances so far, the France international has contributed with a single goal.
