Willian, who left Chelsea to sign for rivals Arsenal before the start of the 2020/21 season, has revealed he wanted to leave the club after just three months. The Brazilian had his contract terminated after just a season with the Gunners, and moved to Corinthians in August.

Former Arsenal attacker Willian has revealed that he wanted to leave the club just three months after joining them from rivals Chelsea. Speaking to Rio Ferdinand and his fellow hosts on the former’s YouTube channel, Five, the Brazilian claimed that he wasn’t happy at the Emirates and had asked his agent to end his nightmare after the first few months.

“I was not happy, that’s why I didn’t perform. I don’t want to go into the details, but I wasn’t happy,”

“So, when I arrived there I was happy, from the beginning I was motivated, I wanted to do well, new club, new mates, new projects.

    he told Ferdinand and Co.

“After three months, I told my agent ‘please, I want to go’. I don’t want to speak bad about the club because it is a big club, has a big history in football, big players played there before it’s a big club – but it didn’t work, it was, of course, the most difficult time of my career.”

In his only season at Emirates, Willian made 37 appearances across all competitions – 25 of those coming in the Premier League. His only goal in the red and white colors came in the final weeks of the season, against the relegation-threatened West Bromwich Albion, in a 3-1 win.

Prior to joining Arsenal, Willian represented their rivals, Chelsea, for seven seasons. Throughout his time with the Blues, the Brazilian was an important first-team figure – evidenced by the fact that he made over 40 appearances in each of his seven seasons at Stamford Bridge.

Overall, the winger clocked 339 appearances for Chelsea, scored 63 goals, won two Premier League titles, and was named the club’s Player of the Year for 2015/16. During this period, Willian also grew in stature for the Brazil national team, for whom he was capped 70 times.
