Reports have emerged that PSG midfielder, Georginio Wijnaldum could potentially make a return to the Premier League during the January transfer window, after making the move to PSG on a free transfer from Liverpool before the start of the 2021/22 season. The Dutchman is understood to be open to a loan move after failing to make the desired impact at the French club.

PSG are spoilt for choices in midfield, with Wijnaldum competing for a spot with Marco Verratti, Leandro Paredes, Ander Herrera, Idrissa Gueye, and Danilo Pereira. Wijnaldum had earlier expressed his unhappiness with the current situation at PSG, as he had admitted that he was “not completely happy” in Paris due to the lack of playing time.

“I can’t say I’m completely happy, because the situation is not what I wanted. But that’s football and I’ll have to learn to deal with that. I’m a fighter. I have to stay positive and work hard to turn it around.”

    he told Dutch outlet NOS.

PSG are not considering selling Wijnaldum for the time being, as the midfielder is understood to be very much in manager Mauricio Pochettino’s plans. However, if PSG decide to change their mind in the days to come, Arsenal are reportedly keen to secure Wijnaldum’s signature, as they look to return to the highest levels of English football.

“I have played a lot in recent years, was always fit, and also did very well. This is something different and that takes getting used to. I was really looking forward to the new step and then this happens. It is very difficult.”

    Wijnaldum was quoted as saying.

The 31-year-old, however, has remained an integral part of the Dutch national side, playing a key role in The Netherlands’ recent path to World Cup qualification under manager Louis van Gaal.

Wijnaldum, whose contract with Liverpool expired in the summer, was in high demand, as he almost completed a move to FC Barcelona, before making a last-minute switch to join PSG. Wijnaldum was a vital member of Jurgen Klopp’s rebuild at Merseyside, making 237 appearances for Liverpool, in addition to winning the Premier League and the UEFA Champions League.

The midfielder joined Liverpool in 2016 after impressing in his solitary season at St. James’ Park, where he found the back of the net 11 times for Newcastle United in the Premier League before leaving for Liverpool.
