Former Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero made his way to Barcelona this season, but could only make a handful appearances before a chest ailment during the game against Alaves got him subbed. He was later sidelined from the squad so that he could recover, but as it stands, despite the Argentine saying he’ll try to make his way back, he might be quitting the game soon.

Journalist Gerard Romero from Marca has mentioned in his radio program that the Argentine will be making an announcement about his career in due course of time. He also mentioned that the press conference has already been scheduled, and he will be hanging his boots after 18 years of professional football.

Aguero was diagnosed with cardiac arrhythmia after tests were conducted and remained in the hospital for further testing. Barcelona later announced upon examination that the 33-year-old will be out of action for three months. Rumours about his retirement emerged, before a couple of weeks ago, but the player turned it down with his tweet.

Aguero moved to La Liga after his contract with Manchester City came to an end this season. He made just five appearances for the Blaugrana, and scored just once. This wasn’t his first stint in Spain, though, as his time with Atletico Madrid brought him the initial fame after moving here from Independiente.

Aguero scored 102 goals in 234 matches for Atletico, and the new owners at City were thoroughly impressed with his overall game. He made a move to the Etihad Stadium in 2011, and had an immediate impact on the club, scoring twice on his debut. He finished his first season with 30 goals across all competitions, including the title-clinching goal against Queens Park Rangers in the 2011/12 season.

He went on to become one of the most decorated strikers of this generation, scoring 260 times for City in just 390 games. He became the highest goal-scorer in club history, and is the 4th highest goal-scorer of the Premier League era.

In his final season with Manchester City, Aguero scored just six goals in 20 appearances, making it his only second season in his club football career with less than 10 goals in a season since joining Atletico. In his overall professional career, Aguero scored 427 goals (41 for Argentina).
