After completing the Saudi-backed consortium’s takeover in the first week of October, Newcastle have made their first acquisition in footballing duties. They have officially announced Eddie Howe as the new manager of the club, and he was present at the Amex Stadium on Saturday watching the Magpies take one point against Brighton.

The former Bournemouth boss was confirmed as the boss Monday evening, a couple of weeks after the sacking of former manager Steve Bruce. The 43-year-old expressed that it is a proud day for him and his family to be joining the Tyneside club, and has thanked the new owners for bestowing this opportunity for him.

“It is a great honour to become head coach of a club with the stature and history of Newcastle United. It is a very proud day for me and my family. This is a wonderful opportunity, but there is also a lot of work ahead of us and I am eager to get onto the training ground to start working with the players.

I would like to thank the club’s owners for this opportunity and thank the club’s supporters for the incredible welcome they have already given me. I am very excited to begin our journey together,”

    he stated.

Amanda Staveley, the co-owner of the club, said that the hierarchy was incredibly happy watching the progress Bournemouth made under Howe and she’s looking forward to work with him.

Howe spent almost his entire professional life in football, as a player, and manager, with Bournemouth. He played nearly 300 games for the Cherries, before taking up managerial duties for the first time in 2008. After a three-year stint, he moved to Burnley, but spent under two years there and left the club citing personal reasons.

His real success as manager came when he joined Bournemouth again in 2012. In three years, he took the club from third division to the top, and for the first time in club history, they made it to the English to- flight in 2015.

They remained five years in the Premier League, and shortly after getting relegated, Howe left the job in August 2020. He rejected an offer from Celtic since then, and this will be his first major assignment since then.
