Manchester City has kept Raheem Sterling’s contract extension on hold after the English striker parted ways with his previous agent.

Manchester City’s finest striker in the current season Raheem Sterling has now seen his contract extension at the club on hold after Sterling split with his agent, Aidy Ward in January. Sterling is assessing his financial and business options, and is currently dealing with his lawyers to get a better agency deal. This has prompted the Cityzens to keep the former Liverpool striker’s contract extension on hold and focus on the other players in the squad.

Sterling currently earns £275,000 a week, and is eyeing a significant rise in wages to £320,000 a week. City are keen to keep the 26-year-old at the club and are expected to accept his wage demands before the summer transfer window. Sterlings’ current contract at the club runs out in June 2023. The new contract is expected to be a six-year deal.

Manchester City are also pursuing their current ‘player of the season’ Kevin De Bruyne for a contract extension on similar lines. Belgium international has been one of the finest creative and attacking playmakers in the league, and the CFG-owned side will be eager to seal the deal. The Belgian’s contract at the club also runs out in the 2023 season and is expected to pen a new five-year deal with Manchester City FC in April 2021, thus keeping him at the club till the 2026 summer window.

City are also pursuing veteran defender Fernandinho for a contract extension. However, the Brazilian is yet to take a call on his playing tenure so far. He is already 35 and is also in the news for a possible role in Pep Guardiola’s backroom staff.

Sergio Aguero is one of the many players who had a bitter-sweet football season so far. He has been a victim of regular fitness issues and injuries and has failed to secure an ample amount of game time under his belt. City are hopeful that Aguero will stay at the Etihad but also want the Argentine to take significant pay due to regular injury concerns for Sergio Aguero.
