There were some seismic results in the race for the title, and the top four, in the Premier League on Sunday: West Ham United beat Liverpool to go third; Arsenal defeated Watford to climb to fifth; Antonio Conte’s Tottenham were held to a draw by Everton.

David Moyes’ West Ham United leapfrogged Liverpool to go third in the Premier League by beating them 3-2. The Hammers took the lead just four minutes in through an Alisson Becker own goal.

Sandwiched between Angelo Ogbonna and Michail Antonio, the Brazilian inadvertently touched the ball into his net after being unable to get enough on his jump.

Klopp: "It’s a clear foul on Alisson. How can it not be? The arm from Obgonna is there. It’s a clear red card for Cresswell. No discussion possible. A reckless challenge."

The Reds equalized just before half-time through Trent Alexander-Arnold, who smashed in a free-kick. The England international rolled the ball towards Mohamed Salah to open his angle before curling it over and around the wall. Nonetheless, Pablo Fornals – who was responsible for the opening goal – restored West Ham’s lead in the 67th minute after being sent through on goal by Jarrod Bowen.

The Hammers were 3-1 up seven minutes later when Kurt Zouma headed in a deep corner from Bowen past the goalkeeper. Substitute Divock Origi pulled one back late on, but West Ham held on for a memorable win.

Elsewhere, Arsenal continued their steady rise to the top with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Claudio Ranieri’s Watford. Bukayo Saka thought he had given the Gunners the lead early on, but he had his goal chalked off for offside. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang then had his penalty saved by Ben Foster later on in the half, his second failure in a row, as the two teams headed into the break level.

Emile Smith-Rowe scored just six minutes after the restart to put Arsenal ahead. The youngster fired the ball into the net from the edge of the box after some stunning work by centre-back Ben White, who managed to intercept a forward pass before running deep with the ball. The Hornets had Juraj Kucka sent off late on for a second bookable offense.

54 – In his 100th match in charge of Arsenal in all competitions, Mikel Arteta has earned his 54th win – the only manager in the club’s history to pick up more wins than the Spaniard from their first 100 games at the helm is George Graham (56). Building. pic.twitter.com/EJRpGuq5qo

Meanwhile, Antonio Conte’s Tottenham drew their first league game 0-0 against Everton. Spurs had two big chances at the end of both halves; first, unmarked Sergio Reguilon failed to keep his shot down from inside the box after being picked by Harry Kane with a cross, and then Giovanni Lo Celso hit the post with a wonder-strike from outside the box. The Tofees, who had Mason Holgate sent off late on, held on for the point.
