West Indies’ final encounter of the T20 World Cup 2021 on Saturday will also be Dwayne Bravo’s final game in international cricket, the experienced allrounder has confirmed.

The 38-year-old will be ending his long career for the West Indies at the end of their Group 1 Super 12 fixture against Australia in Abu Dhabi.

“I think the time has come. I’ve had a very good career. To represent the West Indies for 18 years, had some ups and downs, but as I look back at it I’m very grateful to represent the region and the Caribbean people for so long,”

he told ICC during a post-match Facebook Live show on Thursday.

As West Indies lost to Sri Lanka, all their hopes of securing a semi-final spot vanished. With that in mind, Bravo confirmed his move to call it a day at the highest level. Having already retired from Tests and ODIs, he is now ending his stay in the T20Is.

Bravo has played a total of 90 T20Is for the West Indies. His record includes 1,245 runs at an average of 22.23 and strike-rate of 115.38 plus 78 wickets at 25.64 runs per piece and an economy rate of 8.10.

Dwayne Bravo's outing against Australia tomorrow will be his last for @windiescricket. He will leave international cricket with 295 caps, more than 6000 runs and at least 363 wickets.

He was part of West Indies’ 2012 and 2016 T20 World Cup-winning juggernauts and played his part in the team’s magnificent triumphs.

Part of the golden generation of West Indies’ T20 stars, he said “we have our own legacy”, speaking in the context of Calypso Kings’ success in T20Is and backed the future generations to take that legacy forward.

“I think in the white ball formats West Indies cricket have a bright future and it’s important for us to keep supporting the guys and keep encouraging them,”

he said for the younger lot of Caribbean players.

Bravo made his international debut back in 2004 and also featured in 40 Tests and 164 ODIs for the West Indies. He will be finishing with over 6,000 runs and 350 wickets in international cricket.
