“We encountered wickets in World Cup, much different from Mirpur”: Ahmed on difference in pitches in UAE and Bangladesh

The Bangladesh pace bowler is hopeful that the pitches at home improve in the future as it will help them prepare for the big tournaments.

Bangladesh’s hopes of reaching the T20I semi-finals were dashed on Tuesday as they suffered a massive loss at the hands of South Africa. As they are stranded on zero points from three matches, they will not overtake South Africa’s six points or England’s eight.

A spectacular performance from South Africa leads to them bowling out Bangladesh for 84 👏

The loss was a by-product of a horrendous batting effort by the Mahmadullah-led team. They were wrapped up for a paltry 84 runs, and both SA’s bowling prowess and Bangladesh’s batting lapses were equally responsible.

One of the only Bangladesh players who had a fruitful match was Taskin Ahmed, whose figures read 4-0-18-2. The right-arm-fast bowler had a thing or two to share with the reporters after the game’s conclusion.

“We encountered sporting wickets in the World Cup, much different from Mirpur. We are hopeful of better wickets in the future. It will improve our bowling and batting. Regardless of the result, it will help us ahead of big tournaments,”

    he said.

Ahmed thinks that the Abu Dhabi wicket aided fast bowlers, which is not a surprise as Kagiso Rabada, Anrich Nortje, and Taskin himself had significant contributions with the ball.

Apart from that, he stressed the importance of scoring runs in T20 cricket. He explained that the below-par total was due to the batsmen being low in confidence. Shakib al Hasan’s absence at the top of the order didn’t help either.

Bangladesh will end its forgetful T20I World Cup campaign on Thursday against Australia in Dubai. Taskin Ahmed will hope that the batsmen can pile on some more runs to give the bowlers something to work with.
