”I’m at my best when I’m up against the wall” – David Warner

The UAE leg of the Indian Premier League has not been the best for David Warner, with his form dipping to an all-time low. The conundrum that arose with the Sunrisers Hyderabad did not help the Australian as well, making things even more difficult. However, he seems to not be fazed by all of it.

In an interview with SEN Radio Station in Dubai, Warner opened up on the multiple headlines he has made, and also spoke about the Ashes that’s coming up. The Aussies will host their arch-rivals just over a fortnight after the T20 World Cup draws to an end, and they are keen on getting a massive result.

Upon commenting on the headlines he has been making lately, saying he is always going to be a target man for the media, he also added that Australia can win the Ashes 4-0. This, he says, in response to Glenn McGrath’s 5-0 prediction, to which he feels there must be something given to the weather gods, and hence, he has gone one less than the legendary fast bowler.

”Look, I’m almost a trademark for headlines. It’s going to be a challenge. Glenn (McGrath) loved a five-nil. I’ll say four-nil. There has to be some give with the weather around. For my sake, I think I’m the best fighting when I’m up against the wall.”

From my perspective, I always respect where I am with my game. For the last 18 months, there hasn’t been much continuity, due to the pandemic. (Just) trying to get back-to-back games, when we’re so used to playing series after series,”

    Warner has said.

The 35-year-old has received tremendous backing from his teammates despite his poor run of form. Much to the elation of his colleagues, and fans, he stroked a masterful half-century against Sri Lanka, quintessential of his good old destructive self.

Australia find themselves in a slightly dire situation, with two crucial games coming up next against Bangladesh and West Indies. They must win both those games and expect South Africa to lose one of their remaining games, as Australia’s defeat to England had a pretty shambolic impact on the Net Run Rate.
