Reigning Serie A champions confirmed that they will have to sell Christian Eriksen to a foreign team due to domestic regulations. The midfielder won’t be allowed to continue his career in Italy because of his cardiac arrest at the Euros.

The Nerazzurri confirmed the same in their recently published financial results. The statement read as follows:

“With reference to the registration rights of the player Eriksen, it should be noted that following a serious injury occurred during the European Championships in June 2021, the same was temporarily inhibited by the Italian medical authority from sporting activity for the current season.

“Although the current conditions of the player are not such as to allow the achievement of sporting fitness in Italy, the same could instead be achieved in other countries where therefore the player could resume competitive activity.”

Eriksen suffered a sudden cardiac arrest during Denmark’s opener at the Euros against Finland. The midfielder collapsed on the pitch towards the end of the first half and was treated by the medical staff for several minutes before being transported to a nearby hospital eventually.

Goal reports that the Dane has been linked with a move to his old clubs Tottenham Hotspur and AFC Ajax, while a switch to Real Madrid has also been mooted.

He has represented the Nerazzurri over fifty times so far after joining from Spurs in January 2020 and has a contract at the club until June 2024. Eriksen had previously made over 300 appearances for the North London side in the Premier League, scoring 69 goals.
