“Players must question themselves”: Rooney on Man Utd’s poor form

Former Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney insists that the players must take responsibility for the recent performances.

Manchester United fell to a new low as they were thrashed 5-0 by arch-rivals Liverpool on Sunday at Old Trafford. Due to last season’s points table and the summer transfers, even the most ardent Liverpool supporter wouldn’t have predicted such a result at the start of the season.

The appalling results have led to many fans and critics asking for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to be sacked. However, Rooney reckons that Ole is a ‘fighter’. He said that Ole would continue doing the correct things, sticking to his ideologies and getting the best output from the players available.

The 36-year-old believes that the Norwegian manager is being used as a scapegoat and that the players should be held responsible. He said that the players in question are world-class international level players, and a club like Manchester United needs more. He has asked the players to feel when they lose games to improve their results.

“I’m seeing too many players not willing to run back, not willing to defend, and not willing to put everything on the line for that club, and that’s not acceptable. The players have to question themselves.

It’s too easy for the manager to take all the stick when those players are being paid a lot of money to do the job, and I don’t think they’re doing it well enough,”

    the former England international said.

Manchester United’s challenging run of fixtures has just started, and many big matches are yet to come. After Sunday’s away trip to Tottenham, the 20-time league champions will face Atalanta, Manchester City, Villareal, Chelsea and Arsenal over the next five weeks.

The club, players, and fans must get behind the manager and support him over the next few weeks as it could make or break their season.
