The Danish centre-back has been in the radar for many clubs this summer, but he has committed his future with AC Milan, signing a new three-year contract, keeping him in Milan until June 2024. The contract renewal was confirmed by the 7-time European Cup winners on Thursday.

The 32-year-old has made six appearances for the club this season, with Alessio Romagnoli and Fikayo Tomori starting most of the games.

However, the experience he brings to the table is something Milan aren’t willing to let go and the head coach Stefano Pioli is clearly adamant to keep him.

Simon Kjaer has been a massive presence for his international side, which qualified to the 2022 FIFA World Cup during the last international break. They won all of their eight games in Group of the UEFA Qualification, scoring 27 goals and conceding zero. Their stellar record is making the world take notice of him and is perhaps an indication that their Euro 2020 run wasn’t a flash in the pan.

Kjaer led the Danish side into the semi-final of Euro 2020, where they lost 2-1 to England. He was also at the heart of many news stories for the way he led his side during an immense crisis that occurred in the game against Finland. Christian Eriksen had collapsed on the pitch, and Kjaer had started the initial CPR procedure and made his players form a protective ring whilst the procedure was being carried out by the medical staff later.

He was later named recipient of “UEFA President Award” alongside the medical staff. He has a massive role to play, to ensure Milan remain tight in the title chase with Napoli, Inter Milan and Juventus very much hanging by a thread.

After a fairly long period of time, the Rossoneri are challenging for the league title under the stewardship of Pioli. Having last won the league a decade ago, they are off to a flying start in 2021/22, remaining the only unbeaten team in the Italian league alongside Napoli.

The second-best side in European Cup/Champions League history in terms of titles won, Pioli’s men are struggling to make their presence felt this time, having lost all of their opening three games, to Liverpool, Atletico Madrid and FC Porto.
