Former India opener Gautam Gambhir is confident of Virat Kohli and company maintaining a wood over arch-rivals Pakistan in their Sunday’s Super 12 clash in this year’s edition of the T20 World Cup.

Amidst the sense of anticipation and fanfare, Gambhir said he is backing Kohli’s men to come out on top once again and make a successful start to their T20 World Cup campaign.

The former opener turned politician also said that the political climate around the Indo-Pak relation and the pressure that such a fixture brings on the players, will not make a big difference in the end as India are the better side.

“My best wishes are with the team. They have performed well till now. They will surely win. I have full confidence in them. The team is doing great. Nothing will impact their performance. The team will play well and will win,”

    Gambhir told ANI.

There have been statements made by prominent Pakistani names that their team is definitely going to win this time against India. But Gambhir reckons if Kohli and his team play to their potential, they can beat any side in the world.

“Pakistan always says like this. If India plays with the same potential then we can win over any country,”

said the cricketer, who had some of his most intense battles on the field with Pakistan.

The Indian have defeated Pakistan in all of their World Cup clashes, including four of the five games in the T20 World Cups. The tie in the group stage of the 2007 edition – which later fell in India’s favour after the bowl out – is the only occasion that Pakistan have come close to defeating India in a T20 World Cup.
